Feather Mask

Feather Mask

This is something I made for a friend of mine. Again, I can’t take credit for the idea, it came from the same issue of Making magazine as the organza flowers. But it has definitely inspired me to work with different materials – I’ve never worked with feathers before, so it was fun to give them a go. It needs a bit of time and planning, and costs around £20. I got a ready-made paper-maiche mask from amazon, and the feathers came from ebay. Ribbons came from a local haberdashery (Hellerslea in Newport on the Isle of Wight), and the wooden dowl that the mask is attached to came from a local hardware shop (Hursts in Newport on the Isle of Wight). With a bit of glue, a bit of paint and a lot of artistic (!!) planning, I think I pulled it off. It is quite a messy make – the feathers tend to get everywhere, and you have to be careful about how you spread the glue, but it was well worth it. Next time I’d like to try something more colourful
